the heart goes last by margaret atwood this one is not well liked in the margaret atwood community, but when has popular opinion mattered in my reviews ? i loved this one. it’s fast paced, twisty, and spicy. everytime i put it down i couldn’t stop thinking about it and picked it right back up. another one of atwood’s distopions, this time with an economic emphasis. 8.5/10. all y’all atwood stans can suck my dick

a clockwork orange by anthony burgess at first i didn’t like this one, because the violence seemed gratuitous and the author gave me “old man yells at cloud” energy. luckily with its themes of duality and free will, it grew on me. i will never be able to listen to ode to joy the same way. i like the way the nadsat distances you from the violence a bit. 7/10

happy halloween and happy book review tuesday soichi by junji ito usually my favorite part of junji ito works are the illustrations, but this time the drawings weren’t as fun or spooky. the stories were the better part imo. i’ve read some of the soichi stories before, but having them collected together is really cool. not as scary as i usually like them to be, but fun. 6 /10 for junji ito, but 7.5/10 relative to all books. makes me kinda sad to say, because he usually makes bangers

bl00d meridian by cormac mccarthy i’m so sorry guys, because i’m sure a lot of you like this one, but i had a terrible time. i don’t like vi0lence. i don’t like g0re, so why the fuck did i read this, knowing damn well just the word “scalp” makes me nauseous? cuz im a fucking idiot that’s why. i wanted to see what ideas mr mccarthy was hiding in that big ass forehead of his. it’s critically acclaimed for a reason. it has a lot to say about race, some to say about gender, and is masterfully written. the judge has some of the hardest lines in history. it’s metal af, i’ll give it that, but how metal something is not a category on my rating rubric. 5/10 based off my subjective reading experience. i know lots of people who can stomach this kind of stuff really like this one.
